                            The First Period
一.Teaching goals:
a.      Describe animals;
b.      Express preferences;

a.      Why do you like koalas?
b.      Because they're cute.
c.      Why does he like pandas?
d.      Because they're kind of interesting.

五.Teaching proceduce
Step One: Greeting and revision
Revise:What's your favorite color/subject?
My favorite subject is math/English/…..
Why do you like it?
Because it's fun/interesting/difficult/relaxing/boring.
Then ask:What's your favorite animal? Explain the word "animal''. Say: My favorite animal is Panda,because it's cute/smart.Then ask again,What's your favorite animal? Why do you like it? Then teach the word "zoo".Do you want to see pandas? Where can we see them? For example, in Chengdu Zoo or in Beijing Zoo. Let's go to a zoo and see them,OK?
Step Two  Presentation
          Using some pictures and teach the other animal words,such as tiger,elephant ,koalas,dolphin,lion,penguin,giraffe.
Step Three  1a
          Show the pictures and point to the pictures and say the names one by one.Have students repeat several times until they can name the animasl on seeing them. Then check answers with the whole class.
Step Four 1b
Play the recording the first time. Students only listen.Play the recording again. This time ask students to listen and check.
Step Five 1c
Point to the four description words cute,interesting,fun and smart in the box. Read and explain them one by one to the students.
Step Six Homework
 Ask students to memorize the spelling of the key vocabulary learned in this class.

五.Teaching Procedures
Step One  Revision  1c
   Ask someone these questions:
   Do you like giraffes?
   Why do/don't you like it?
        Because they're very cute/fun/smart/scary/interesting.
        Then ask the other students:
        Does he/she like giraffes?
        Why does/doesn't he/she like giraffes?
         Because they're very………….
Then ask and answer in pairs
Step Two 2a
This activity provides listening practice using the target language.
Call attention to the two blank lines on the left. Say,You will hear a recording of a conversation. Listen carefully. Then write the names of the two animals you hear on these lines.
Play the recording the first time. Students only listen.
Play the recording a second time. This time students write in the names of the animals.
Check the answers.
Point out the adjectives listed on the right. Ask a student to say the words.
Say, Now I will play the recording again. This time draw a line between each animal and the adjective you hear.
Play the recording and have students match each animal with an adjective.
Correct the answers.
Step Three 2b
This activity provides listening and writing practice using the target language.
Call attention to the conversation and the blank lines in it Say, You will hear the recording again. This time please write a word from the box on each blank line. Some words can be used more than one time.
Ask a student to read the words in the box.
Play the recording. Check to see that students are writing a word from the box on each line of the conversation.
Go over the answers.
Step Four Grammar Foucus
          Invite two pairs of students to read the questions and answers to the class.
Step Five Homework
a.      Recite the conversation in 2b.
b.      Make a sentence using kind of and very respectively.
Step Six Blackboard Design

Step One Revision
          Ask several students to share their sentences made with kind of and very with the whole class. Ask different students, What kind of animals do you like? Why? Do you like lions? Why/Why not?Practice expressing preferences and give reasons.
Step Two 3a
This activity provides reading practice using the target language.
point to and say the names of the three countries on the maps and ask students to repeat
Point to the three animals and ask a student to name them.
Say, Now draw a line between each animal and the country it comes from.
Correct the answers.
Step Three 3b
This activity provides guided oral practice using the target language.
Point to the conversation in the picture. Ask a pair of students to read it to the class.
Ask students to work in pairs. Say, Now you can talk about where animals come from. Point to the map and animals students matched up in 3a-
Say, Work with a partner. Take turns asking and answering questions about the countries and animals in 3a.
After a few minutes, ask several pairs to say the conversation for the class.
Step Four 4
Point to the word box.Go over the names of countries and animals. Then play the recording and play the game "Bingo".
Step Five Homework
          Finish off the exercises of the workbook.

  Listen and circle the description words in conversations.
  What questions.

  A tape recorder. Pictures of different kinds of animals. A bag.
五.Teaching Procedures
Step One Revision
          Ask different students the question: Where are you from? Encourage them to answer the question truly. Check the answers to the exercises of the workbook.
Step Two 1
          Call students' attention to the numbered description words in the box. Teach students to practice them one by one and explain some of them.Then ask them to look at the animals beneath the words and say the name of each one.
Point out the list of eight numbered adjectives at the top.
Say, Now please match the adjectives at the top with the animals in the picture. Write the letter of the animal on the line after the adjective. Point out the sample answer.
As students work, move around the room offering to answer questions as needed.
Correct the answers.
Step Three 2a
Spent a moment reviewing the description words in 1a.
This activity provides listening practice with the target language.
Say, Now I will play a recording of a conversation between Tony and Maria. This time circle the adjectives you bear on the list for la.
Play the recording again. Students circle the adjectives they hear.
Correct the answers.
Step Four 2b
Point to the chart with the headlines Animal, Maria's Words and Tony's Words. Play the first four lines of recording and stop the tape. Ask, What animal are they talking about? (the elephant) What words does Maria use to describe the elephant? (interesting, intelligent)
Point out the write-on lines where students can write these words.
Play the whole recording and have students write the words they hear on the chart.
Check the answers.
Step Five 3
Call attention to the dialogue next to the picture. Ask two students to read it to the class.
Say, Work in pairs. Use sentences like these to say what you think about different animals.
Demonstrate the activity with one or two students. For example,
say, I like dolphins. They're intelligent.
Ask students to work in pairs. As they work, move around the room checking on progress.
Ask some pairs to present their conversations to the class.
Step Six Homework
Get students to write out a similar conversation to the one in activity 3 as consolidation.

Step One Revision
          Ask different students: What animals do/don't you like? Why? Or Why not? Encourage students to give responses truly.
Step Two 3a
This activity provides reading practice using the target language.
Point out the three descriptions of animals. Ask students to take turns reading one aloud.
Then draw attention to the pictures of animals below.Say, Write the letter of the animal in the blank lines above its description. There is one animal that is not described.
Check the answers.
Step Three 3b
Point to the words in the box. Let a student read them to the class. Call attention to the pictures of animals in 3a, and draw attention to the grass, leaves, and meat. Ask a student to explain each word or use it in a sentence to show he or she understands what it means. Teach the expression sleeps.
Point out the description in 3b with blank lines where some words are missing. Read it to the class saying blank each time you come to a blank line.
Point out the six words in the box. Say, You can write these words in the blanks. Use each word only once.
As students work, move around the room checking progress and offering language support as needed.
Check the answers.
Step Four 3c
Say,In this activity,you're asked to write a description of any animal you like.
Step Five 4 Groupwork
            Ask students to have a careful look at the picture and read the sentences in the speech bubbles.
            Get students to work in groups.As the groups work,move around the classroom to make sure all the groups are working smoothly.
Step Six Homework
         After class,rewrite the passage written in 3c to make it better.
Step Seven  Blackboard Design

This is Jia Jia. She's from the Pacific Ocean. She is two years old. She eats plants in ocean. She is cute and friendly. She always likes to play with people. (It's a dolphin.)
