Teaching important points and difficult points : how to express their ideas by using the useful expressions in the text Teaching aids:  a computer, a projector and a tape recorder Teaching procedures:   Step1.  Revision and lead-in 1.       Listen to an Olympic song: Hand in Hand Question: Have you heard this song before?            Today we will talk about sports and Olympics. Well, there will be a competition between boys and girls. I mean, now you are asked to be divided into two groups: a boy group and a girl group. Then please write down as many words about sports as possible. Each one can write only one word and you can’t write the same word. Now, you have one minute to prepare and then you have three minutes to write your words. 2.       Competition( three minutes later, teacher and the students check the result together)   Step2. Warming up 1.I know most of you, maybe all of you like sports. Do you agree with me? Now can you tell me what are your favorite sports? I mean, What sports do like best?(5 minutes are given to them to speak out their favorite sports.) 2.Look at the pictures on the screen: What are they doing?( review and learn some words about sports) 3.a quiz   As we all know, the Olympic Games are the biggest sports meeting in the world. Let’s have a quiz and see how much you know about the Olympics. Please open your books at page 50 and look at the part Warming up. Do it by yourselves and then give me your answers.

Being the host of the Olympic Games will have good and bad effects on the host city. Work together and write down some of the effects. Teaching aids:  a computer and a projector Teaching Procedures: Step1.Revision 1.       Ask some students to make sentences by using the phrases and sentence patterns. 2.       Check the homework   Step2.Word Study (P54)Read the sentences to guess the words about the Olympic Games. Then fill in the  blacks. The first letter has been given. The students will try to complete the words Later, the teacher will ask sme them to read each of the sentences and tell the class the answers.   Step3 . Grammar---- The future passive voice

   1) lead-in:  Let’s come to the grammar:The Future Passive Voice

   Please look at the following sentence: In 2008, the 29th Olympic Games will be held in Beijing.   Can you tell me what the predicate is in this sentence?( will be held)

  The structure “will be held”is the Future Passive Voice. The form of the Future Passive Voice is:    will +be+p.p( past participle)

2) Let the students find out some more sentences with “the Future Passive Voice” In the text, there are some sentences like this. Please pick out such sentences and then I will ask some of you to write the sentences on the blackboard.  ( New buildings and sports venues will be built. More trees will be planted and new roads will be built.) Please turn them into the active voice by using “the people of Beijing” as the subject. ( The people of Beijing will build new buildings and sports venues . The people of Beijing will plant more trees and build new roads.)    3)Practice part1(p54):Turn the following sentences into the Future Passive Voice.  ( Let the students do the exercises by themselves and then check the answers---showing the answers on the screen . At the same time the teacher should ask the students if they have any questions and answer the questions.) Now please turn the sentences on the screen into negative sentences( Ask the students to finish the task one by one.) .Now please turn the sentences on the screen into interrogative sentences( Ask the students to finish the task one by one.) Part2(p55) Change the following sentences into questions, using the Passive Voice: I suggest doing the exercises like this: the first step: change them into the Future Passive Voice; the second step: ask questions about the underlined parts.Now I’ll show you an example:sentence1:Many new sports venues will be built for the Beijing Olympics.   What will be built for the Beijing Olympics? ( Then ask the students to finish the task one by one.)      4)Test Let’s have a quiz now. Please look at the screen. I.Put the following sentences into the Passive Voice, then negative and interrogative. 1.They will finish the experiment before 10 o’clock. 2.She will return the cup to the teacher. 3.I will mix oil and water together. II.Put the following into the Passive structure, then ask questions about the underlined parts. 1.They will speak French at the meeting tomorrow. 2.The fire will destroy the village. 3.He will sow the seeds in this red soil.   Step4  Summary and Homework   1) In this class we’ve reviewed the Future Passive Voice. Its structure is : Firmative form:   will+be +p.p(past participle) Negative form:    will+not+be+P.P Interrogative form:will+subject +be+p.p Special question form: Wh--+will+be+p.p(wh—used as the subject.)                     Wh--+will+subject+be+p.p 2)Homework 1.(p128)Ex1&Ex2          2.(P130) Ex1 3.Write a short article, using the Future Passive Voice.         The Fifth Period: Integrating Skill (students’ book and workbook) Teaching aims:  1.Enable the students to talk about people who they admire in English and express or support an opinion with suitable expressions. 2.Train the students’ writing ability by writing a profile. 3.useful words and phrases: profile, weight, position, superstar, point, skill, more than, size, live his dream, in a matter of,  score, care about, hammer throw, the sprit of ,deal with, be part of 4.important sentences: ①Yao Ming has more than just size: he also has great skill and speed and he is a team player.    ②It is probably true that they do love their game.     ③Matches will be won in a matter of seconds.   ④That doesn’t matter to me. Teaching important points and difficult points :         Let the students learn to use the structures of expressing and supporting an opinion.    Teaching aids:  a computer and a projector Teaching Procedures:

Step1.Revision

1)      Check the homework 2)      Answer some questions on the screen: ①Do you know how many gold medals did our Chinese team get in Sydney? And what about the position among the competing countries? ②It’s really a great success. It all owes to the hard work of our athletes. Do you know some names of the athletes? ③Can you name some sports stars whom you admire very much? Please give your reasons. (The students may have many different ideas and the teacher should lead them to the certain topic---Chinese superstar basketball player Yao Ming.)   Step2.Listening and reading ( for the students ’book P55)    Well, we are going to know some information about Yao Ming. Now listen to the tape and then answer the following questions: 1.       When and where was Yao Ming born? 2.       What team is he working on now? 3.       What are his advantages on playing basketball? 4.       What are his parents? 5.        What combat gains did Yao Ming get in his last season? 6.       Why can Yao Ming become famous?  (Maybe the students are not very clear about question5 and question6. Then ask them to look through the text and try to find more information after they have answered the first 4 questions.) Possible answers: 1.       Yao Ming was born in Shanghai, China in 1980. 2.       He is helping the Houston rockets in the NBA. 3.       He is very tall and very strong. 4.       His parents are both great basketball players. 5.       He scored 32.4points per game in his last season. 6.       He has more than just size but also great skill speed and he is a team player. Step3.Reading after the tape.    The teacher will play the tape for the students to follow. After that, the teacher should ask the students if they have any difficult points. If so, the teacher will give some explanations. Step4 Reading( for workbook P131)    You’ve known much about the Chinese superstar player Yao Ming. But you know there are still thousands of unknown athletes. They are also working very hard to become the best in their sports.  And there are also some  sports that we may not know much abut. Now please look at the two pictures. Do you know the names of the sports?(showing the pictures on the screen.----Fencing and hammer throw.)    Ok.Now please open your books at page 131.You will read a passage about some unknown athletes and sports---FOR THE LOVE OF THE GAME. 1)      Fast-reading  Read the text  quickly and try to grasp the general idea. Possible answer:    From the text, we can know that many unknown Olympic heroes are fighting for their favorite sports without money or honor which suggests these athletes represent the true Olympic sprit. They express their love for their sports and describe their life is like. They have something valuable for us to learn. 2)      careful—reading Now let’s read the text again and then you should find the answers to the questions after the text.(p131,Ex1) Possible answers: ⒈The unknown athletes often have to work and train at the same time. They also have to pay for their own trips and equipments. ⒉For many athletes, the Olympic Games is their only chance to compete in front of a large audience and to represent their countries. ⒊Maybe famous athletes can draw big crowds and help their clubs or teams to make money. Because people love them very much and are willing to pay much money for the tickets to watch their matches. Step5. discussing Now, let’s look at Ex2 at page131.You must know something about some sports such as tennis, soccer, table tennis, badminton and so on. Are they popular in China? What are the reasons why they are popular or not. You can discuss together and then fill in the following form. ]

  Step6.Homework Try to talk about the stars in sports whom you like very much.                                  The Sixth Period  Listening and Writing Teaching aims:1.Develop the students’ listening and speaking ability by what they heard from the listening text.              2.Learn how to pick out detailed information from what they heard on the tape. 3.Train the students’ writing ability by writing a profile. Teaching important points and difficult points : 1.       Listen to a sports report about choosing sports star of the year and learn to make a decision. 2.       Help the students to master the useful expressions in the text to describe the sports star they love. Teaching aids:  a computer and a projector Teaching procedures: Step1. Listening 1( P51 ) In this unit, we have learned a lot about sports and sports stars. Today we will listen to some sports reports and some sports stars. Now please open your books at page51.Listen to the following sports reports and fill in the missing information below. Before you listen to the tape, please read the questions and short sections with missing parts to find the listening points. I’ll play every report twice. Please listen carefully and fill in the black .Let’s begin.(play the tape.) After playing the tape for the second time, the teacher checks the work by asking some of the students to tell the whole class what they have filled in the blanks.   Step2.Listening2(P127 workbook) Now, let’s continue to practice our listening. We’re going to hear about some sports stars. Please open to page127.Listen to part1 and make notes about the two sports stars of the year. For each section, I’ll play twice. Listen to the tape carefully and fill in the information. After playing twice, the teacher check the answers with the whole class. Then come to the second section. There is another section for us to listen to. While listening, please write down the necessary information . I’ll also play the tape twice. Let’s begin. ( Play the tape twice and then check the work) Step3.Discussion     As we know, there are so many sports stars in our country. Maybe it’s hard for to choose from if I ask you which star do you love best. Now let’s work in groups to make a decision :Which Chinese sports star do you think should be chosen as a sports star of the year.Please write down your reasons for your choice. Then you will report your decision.
