On  May  5 , James  Soong (Song  Chuyu ) , Chairman  of  the  People  First  Party (亲民党)  in  Taiwan , started  his  nine-day  visit  to  the  mainland.  Only  two  days  before , another  Taiwanese  leader , Kuomintang (国民党)  Chairman  Lien  Chan  just  finished  his  eight-day  trip  in  the  mainland.  Soong , 63 , was  born  in  Xiangtan  in  1942.  He  went  to  Taiwan  with  his  father  at  the  age  of  seven.
On  May  9th , Soong  went  back  to  Xiangtan  to  pay  respects  to  his  grandparents  and  great  grandfather  at  their  tombs(坟墓).  Soong  hoped  his  trip  could  build  a  bridge  between  the  two  sides.  "We  are  here  to  build  a  bridge  of  trust (信任) , understanding  and  cooperation  between  Taiwan  and  the  mainland ," he  said.
